"If you don't know me and somebody gives you a paper on me, your first thoughts would become that this is a terrible person, but you never got to see that person."
- Jc Jones Anderson

For too long, incarcerated people have been reduced to their crimes. The Prison Perspective Project seeks to bridge the gap between those who have been incarcerated and those who choose to look the other way.

Here you will find a collection of stories from people who have spent time in Boston's local prisons. Each interview starts with one question: what is your story? From there, participants are given the opportunity to tell their story they way they want it to be told, in their own voice. Each story is unique but together they carry one message: people are more than the worst thing they've ever done.

The Prison Perspective Project was created by Boston College student, Piper Nichols, as a senior independent study in the Lynch School of Education and Human Development. Thank you to those who made the project possible: Julia Whitcavitch-Devoy, Jessica Hedges, and Patrick Conway, and to those who shared their voices.
